So we all know how farming is like 99% of our lives, right? And we also know how the boys have been freaking out about getting behind in the planting, right? For this story to make sense, I must tell you first that Brian took the day off from his paying job yesterday. I know he was up early becaues he was @ my house @ 7:00am. Brad worked until 10:00 @ his paying job & came home to plant. I know he was up around 4:30ish.
Ok, that being said--last night at 9:50 pm, Brad calls when he was done planting & says, "What are you doing?!" Uh, I was laying in bed watching Dancing w/ the Stars... So he says, "I guess you wouldn't want to take me to Ramsey to get my truck would you?" So I said, "Well, I don't really think I have a choice. You need your truck..." Ah, the life of a farmer's wife...
So I get out of bed & go pick him up & take him to the field (which for those of you who may not know, it's by North Harrison High School--& that still may not mean anything to the rest of you...it's like 15 minutes from our house...@ 10:00 at night, remember?) So on the way there, Brad calls Brian to see what he got done. What I gather from hearing Brad's side of the phone conversation was that Brian didn't want to stop planting. He wanted to keep going on & on through the night " 'cuz rain was a'comin'..."
Now, here's my problem. I get it - ya gotta make hay while the sun shines, strike while the iron's hot. But, ya also need S-L-E-E-P! They BOTH had been up since early morning. They both had been working all day. They both had to get up the next morning (or in like 6-7 hrs) to go to their paying jobs.
So I got mad @ Brad & was griping about him needing to come home & go to bed. And of course he started in about how they're "never gonna get done". I do sympathize w/ them. When they first get started it seems like a never ending battle. But, again, they need rest! And I hate speaking anything like this into the atmosphere, but I told him that one of these days they're gonna fall asleep & kill or hurt someone else or themselves! Brad works around dangerous machines all day...& we all know how dangerous farm machinery can be.
So, please..next time you see my nut job hubby OR his nut job brother, please tell them to be careful & that their wife/fav sis in law is right. They need to stop...drop & roll, er, I mean - stop & rest every so often or they won't be any good to anyone!
