Kickin it old school - Part 7

This is gonna be all about our babies. Since we've been together, we've had 5 cats. 3 have gone on to that great big field in the sky.

Beavis was our first baby. His mommy is a cat that's been @ the barn forever. After she had the litter, Brad found him all by himself in the barn. He thought that raccoons or something had gotten the rest of them, so he rescued him & took him into the house...a few days later, the rest of the litter showed up. Beavis got the good end of that stick.

Brad & Beavis were best buds. I really think Beavis loved Brad, & I KNOW Brad loved Beavis. This is Beavis eating deer steak. Brad would grill it & Beavis would totally attack him to get a piece.

Then Petey came along. One night Brad's mom was getting the semi ready for a trip & this little yellow tabbie came up onto the step & meowed. So he got a first class ticket to the house too. She named him Petey because he came up into the "Peterbilt".

He didn't love Brad like Beavis did, but this pic was when Brad was sick & laid up on the couch (which doesn't happen very often...).
Petey & Beavis moved into our house w/ us after we got married. We would find Petey in some strange places. This is when he jumped on top of the cabinets...
And this is when he would get in the Christmas tree. He even knocked it over once & I.was.pissed!

Petey died suddenly in 2002. He was sitting in the window sill of our bedroom & Brad came in & said his name. He fell out of the sill & pretty much died right there. Brad rushed him into the kitchen & he said he could see the light go out of his eyes...

We had to put Beavis to sleep a few years ago. His kidneys were starting to fail & he was on special food & he finally got to the point where they wouldn't function. Brad was heartbroken...

After Petey died, we got Taz. I truly think Beavis was depressed. You could tell he missed Petey. We thought maybe another buddy would help him. Not so much...Beavis hated Taz.

Taz had some sort of mental problems. And I'm not even joking. He always thought he was starving. On two occasions, he ate his food SO fast that he choked on it. We had to give him the kitty heimlich becuase he was choking to death. It was SO scary! Needless to say, he was on diet food, but that didn't really work. I couldn't leave food sit out because he'd eat every morsel. I had to soak his food for 10-15 seconds to soften it up so he wouldn't choke on it. He would freak out & cry the whole time 'cuz he thought he was starving!

A whole new meaning to the term "wide load".

We had to put Taz to sleep not long after Beavis.
It is hard to explain to people who aren't "animal" people the attachments you make w/ them. But these guys were like our kids. We took care of them & loved them. And even though we made the choice w/ 2 of them to have them put to sleep, that doesn't change the fact that is was extremely difficult for us...

All these cats lived in our house. I am allergic to cats & I'm not supposed to have them in the house. So once all the inside cats were gone, I was like "We're not having anymore cats..."

Yeah, well...never say never...
In my defense, these are outside cats. They were only in the house because it was so cold outside this winter. And I can't help it that our bed is hella comfortable...Can ya blame them?!
