Carrie's son is a senior at Floyd Central this year. And they have been going to different campuses visiting to see which one is where he wants to be. Normally her parents go with them - but they couldn't go to this one. So being the best friend that I am, I told her I'd go along if she needed me too.
We made our way up to Bloomington Saturday morning to tour the IU campus. Now, I'm not a sports fan. Don't like football - don't care about basketball. But by God - I AM a hoosier! So I was kinda exicted to walk around & see the whole campus. And I've only been to IU one time in my whole 33 years. I went many years ago to help a friend move into her dorm (wink, wink, Alicia!) We went to the orientation, then we bundled up for the cold walk around campus. (It was 21 degrees...)
This is what they refer to as the "Jordan River". Hey - that's what it said on the map. We found this quite funny. It's barely a creek...but maybe up north - this seems like a river to them?
Tyler is not very photogenic. He refused to let me take his picture. So I was up to the challenge to try to get pics of him. This was at the President's house. It's right on campus. He turned towards me as I snapped the button. Then he stole my camera.... & his mommy had to make him give it back...
Lovely side view of his face...
There are tons more like that - but you get the picture. This is probably the best candid shot I got of him. And ya know how I did it? We were walking & they were behind me & being the stealth photographer that I am - I held up the camera & snaped a pic. He had no idea... I love covert ops...
This is where the football field used to be. Lovely shot of the back of Tyler's head.
There was also a famous movie filmed here - "Breaking Away" - but I've never seen it...
We also visited the Wright building which has dorms. (I thought it looked familiar & texted Alicia to see where she stayed - & it was the Wright building...). They have a lot of cool things for the students there. The most exciting to me was a dvd rental thingie. It was closed - but I stuck my head through the gate to look around. And look what I saw... This means one of two things. #1-I am hip & cool 'cuz I'm into Twilight & that's what the kids are into. #2- I am old & retarded 'cuz I'm into Twilight & that's what the kids are into...
Before we left campus, we wanted to see Assembly Hall. So as we drove, we saw the gate to the football field open. So we drove in. And low & behold, it led us to under the scoreboard of the football stadium.
And it was like a tiny miracle. The kid who had been in the back of the pack the whole tour, had stolen my camera 'cuz I was taking pics suddenly woke up & got excited. He wanted his picture taken. Ahh - be still my heart.
So he & I walked out onto the field. We were a tiny bit scared we were gonna get kicked out, but eh - what could they say, "Ya'll need to get off the field?" Ok - we were willing to take the risk.
He wanted (yes I said WANTED) his pic taken with this rock. Now I said I dunno anything about football so I dunno what the rock meant, but apparently it was a big deal 'cuz it had its own plaque that said "THE ROCK" & there were banners in the stadium that said, "Defend the rock".
Of course it was all the way at the other end of the field. So we had to walk all the way back the length of the field. I took that opportunity to prove for all prosperity that I had my happy bootie on the field at IU stadium ( I dunno if it has a name...) We parked under that huge scoreboard you see in the background.
Tyler also wanted his pic taken by this sign. Again - I dunno why...he just did & I was excited 'cuz he did so I took it.
Another pic request...
We drove over to Assembly Hall. And we saw a couple of guys walking to the doors. So we stalked them to see which doors were unlocked. Then we went in right behind them. So we walked through the underbelly of the building & found the doors that led to the gym.
And we.were.there.

Jaime,
Now I don't feel so alone in the world . . .
I know nothing about sports. Hate football. Don't care for basketball. Barely tolerate baseball. I'm glad that I'm not the only one.

Only the 2nd time? Not true. You went one other time for a few minutes to pick-up Alicia for our Wedding. So you have been three times. :-) It was Dan Mac, You and I that went.
