Kickin' it old school - Part 3

I thought you may be getting sick of lookin' @ our mugs, so I thought I'd share w/ you the story of our house. We live in the middle of a field...no joke. Our house is on 112 acres that we farm. When we started looking for a place to live, Brad wanted to live close to the barn & he owned this field just up the road so it seemed like the perfect solution. We weren't even married yet when we started this whole process. Between driveway permits, building permits, wells, septic tanks & contractors...I think we might've gotten divorced if we had been married! Then it wasn't even finished when we got married. We had to live @ Brad's parents for about 3 months & Brian & Lora stored all our furniture & wedding gifts in their basement! ;-)I don't remember how it came about, but we decided to get a modular. I think one reason is because they were so reasonable for what you get. Plus, all the kitchen appliances were included. The only thing we had to buy for it was a washer & dryer & or course furniture. We went ALL over God's green country to find the one we liked. (Ok, the one I liked...Brad was pretty much indifferent. He's happy if I'm happy! HA!) Out of all the gazillion places we went. I picked the same exact one out every time. I really like the openness of it. The kitchen, dining room & living room are all open into one big room.
We also decided to put in on a basement for additional space & it has a 2-car garage. (Plus I'm a big chicken when storms come & I wanted to have a space to take my happy butt if a tornado came!)

If you look closely, you can see my kitchen!
They brought the bad boy in in 2 pieces. Then they jacked it across the basement that we framed in & attached it w/ straps to the 2 x 6's. (I'm sure it's much more technical than this, but hey...I'm a chick. I don't know!)

This is how the ole' girl looks today. I paid to have someone do the landscaping 2 summers ago. Best moo-lah I ever spent. Brad did the sidewalk.

We added the porch in 04 or 05. It was all MY idea!

Let's just say it's no Graceland or nuthin', but I think it's a cute, cozy little home. The only thing I wished we'd done was put it further off the road. But w/ the way the hill sloped down & having the garage in the basement was really the only place to put it! So there ya have it - Casa de McAfee!
