In which I bore you with flowers

Ok-it's obvious you guys are obsessed w/ me... I mean - I get tweets & texts & Facebook posts when I don't blog forever.  I would totally tell you you have a problem - but I'm pretty awesome & don't forget hilarious so you get a pass on this one.  It's a proven FACT that I can make people laugh when they are having a bad day.  Do NOT make me show you the text to prove it!  (Hi, JLL!)

And because most the mundane day-to-day things that go on in my life that I don't think you would care about - since you are obsessed you me - you care.   So now you get to hear be bored about flowers.
UH HUH.

I hate flowers.  Ok, I love them, I think they're pretty blah blah blah but I HATE them.  I hate taking care of them...the watering, the plucking of dead blooms - ugh.  I finally broke down last week & got a few flowers.  One of the things I hate the most is paying for them.  I mean - they DIE.  I do not see the point of spending hundreds of dollars on something that will DIE in a couple of months.
(Yes, this is the girl that dropped $2000 on a Macbook - but that's for you too - so hush up...)  There were years that I bought flowers for every section of the deck, 3 shepherds hooks & at least 3 more planters to hang UNDER the deck.  Nonsense, people...

I was able to get these 'drop in planters' on sale for $10.  I have no idea what the flowers are but they were pretty & purple & that's really all I need in the world.  I also like them because they were 'drop in' which sounded easy breezy to me since I have 2 round containers at home.
All I had to do was empty the dirt out of the planter (that had been in there from years past) & DROP it in.  That's my kind of planting.
I was about 30 feet up in the air on the deck when I realized I was going to need to remove some of the soil for the drop in planter to sink down far enough.  I was way too lazy to walk ALL the way back down the stairs to put the soil in the field (or in a garbage can)...so I dropped it off the deck onto the driveway.  YES I DID.  I live in the middle of a bean field, people - do you think I care about soil in the driveway?  Don't you judge me...
(See Sonny walking towards the dirt?  He almost covered!)
It doesn't get any easier than that.  Yes, I turned the purple flowers toward the house so that's what I would see.  Do you not know me at ALL?
There were lots of dead blooms I needed to pull off to perk them up a bit.  I wore plastic gloves during the whole process as to not mess up my new, painful manicure.
So I have these round planters that go over the deck rail.  I got this one as a gift from my sister in law years ago & she bought the one for a 2x6 (because that's what Brian told her our deck was) but our deck is 2x4's.   Currently it's sitting precariously on the deck rail & if we get a bad storm, it's totally nose-diving to its death.

Since my hubby is super handy when he's not busy doing other things he improvised years ago to make the 2x6 planter fit on my 2x4 deck rail by putting an extra board on top of the rail.

You can see the ghosts of flowers past where I've moved the planter to different locations over the years.  And since I'm not good w/ a hammer & nails I'll have to wait for B-rad to have time to move one of these pieces to my new flower location.

I also bought some petunias for the 2 planters on the front porch.  I wanted to get some that were brighter colors or purple so they would pop (I don't have any color in my landscaping - it's alllll green) but all they had at the store were these reddish looking ones. (This is what happens when you procrastinate...) They were $5 (!) each so I only got 4.

My plan for this year was to put the planters outside my kitchen window so I could enjoy them.  Normally I put them where people who drive by or come over can see them but I don't care about those people this year...
