Ok-So there's not been much interesting going on since New Year's at Casa de McAfee. Brad worked at the farm this weekend in the freezing cold. I tried to tell him to not go out in it but he said, "Uh-hello? Those beans aren't gonna load themselves in the semi!" (-But how cool would it be if they could?!)
Saturday night we went "in town". And I say "in town" because you city slickers just can't appreciate the lengths we have to go to to get anywhere. And by "in town" I mean - Clarksville. It's a country thang - I can't help it!
So we went in town to use some gift cards my bro got us for Christmas. One super cool thing we got is a wireless router for our laptop access card. Now - you may be saying, "What you talkin' 'bout Willis? Access card?!" Well, well, well - since apparently all the high speed internet companies think we live in 1929 - we have no access to internet. None. Nada. Zilch.
So we had to become "stealthy" & search for "alternatives" on our own. There are 3 that I know of. And none are the "real deal" high speed. Let me count the ways:
#1- AT & T cell service access card. It's another line on your cell phone bill. It's $60/month & you have to sign a 2 year contract. AT&T's big "thing" is 3G - well - I would like to tell Mr. Luke Wilson that his little postcard MAP commercial does NOT cover Depauw, IN. 'Nuff said...
#2-Verizon cell service access card. I don't HAVE this - but I think it works kinda the same as AT&T.
#3-Hughes Net. This is a satellite dish for internet. But it's fairly pricey. You have to pay a installation fee (which is hundreds of dollars), sign a 2 year contract & pay a monthly fee.
Ok-So we have option #1-AT&T. While we get something, it's not the best they have (closer to civilization). It takes a while for web pages to load. We can't watch tv shows online. We can't watch youtube videos. Oh-the humanity!
So back to being in town. Jeremy got Brad a gift card for Best Buy & we were on a mission to get a wireless router for our access card so Brad & I can both be on our computers at the same time. And of course - since we live in 1929 - we can't just get your "run of the mill", $50 router. We had to get a "special" one - that has a USB port ('cuz that's how the access card goes into your computer - no data cable)- and that cost $100 freakin' dollars! I wasn't real thrilled about it - but I figured we were just paying $50 since we had a gift card. And my smarty pants hubby got it all hooked up & we were surfin'. PLUS - he's so smart - he figured out how to get it to let him get on the internet on his new fancy schmancy Ipod Touch. And I must admit, it's so nice! I know, I know - we're way behind the times. Hopefully soon we'll get indoor plumbing! - For God's Sake - somebody send me a gift card!
Sunday I laid around all.day.long. I swear. I did absolutely nothing. Well - I did do laundry. But other than that - I spent my day on the couch watching anything I could find half way decent on tv. And that was a job of its own... Brad was gone again out in the cold.
Our entertainment center came in yesterday & we went & picked it up last night. Boy, oh boy, I could have woven a really funny story from us unloading it & taking it into the house. But it was too dang cold outside & I was too dang tired to mess with pictures. Never fear, I will post pics after Brad gets the ginormous thing assembled. It looked much, much smaller in that big ole showroom floor than it does in our tiny house...
I am pretty busy this week at work - even though you may be wondering, "How is she blogging if she's so darn busy?! Hmmmm?!" Well - as I type, I'm waiting for 10 gazillion reports to print so I can get my bootie in gear. I do payroll at my job. And I also get the (dis)pleasure of having to send in all the federal & state taxes each month & quarter. THEN at the end of the year - I get to reconcile all those federal, state, county & city taxes & do W2's. It's so freakin' stressful for me too. 'Cuz it's the federal government, hello? They could take me to tax jail. And I would not do good in jail. First - I don't think that they have "social hour" & I like to talk! Plus - orange is NOT my color.
