Well the bathroom still isn't finished... but I know you guys start to get irritated w/ me if I don't post often (& really who can blame you? I'm hilarious...) Its been over a month since you've heard from me so I figured it's time---& the only real thing going on in my life is this damn bathroom...
I looked back at my pictures (because my super cool iPhone saves the date I took them) & on Jan 8th we removed that God forsaken tub... since most of you can add you know that means this project has lasted almost 3 months... SO FAR. I knew it would be slow going because of B-rad's schedule, & I'm 'ok' w/ that - it is what it is. (His only rule from me was that it had to be done BEFORE he started planting!) They have been loading trucks w/ corn & working on the semis that keep breaking down PLUS working to get the planters ready. (I mean, poor B-rad - he works at the farm then I make him work at home. I have really tried hard not to bug him & push him to work on the bathroom at night. Some nights he's not home until after 9:00 & he's been up since 5:00am. And YES I always try to help him. I'm sure he would say I'm in his way, but I try to help...)
And even though I'm kinda sorta not really 'ok' with how long it's taking - I am NOT fine w/ the fact that my house is a disaster zone. I can't figure out if I'm most excited to get all the tools & paraphernalia OUT of my house & garage or having my master bath back!
B-rad's dad was home a couple of weekends ago & they finished quite a lot. There are some things B-rad needed help w/ so they were trying to do those things while Stanley was in town. The pocket doors were a real pain because they had to re-frame the walls to fit them.
Stupid modular...
We have 2 doors in the bathroom: one from the laundry room to the bathroom & the other from our bedroom to the bathroom. We installed the pocket doors to save room & I LOVE THEM. It makes the room look SO much bigger w/out the doors being in the way.
What I also did not count on was the sheer amount of dust that would be dispersed throughout the house. The first day I had dust on our BED. I had to shake the blankets out outside & change the sheets before we went to bed. Ya'll know this allergy freak could've never dealt w/ that. The next day I was smart & covered the bed w/ an old blanket.
The is the door between our room & the bathroom. See the red blanket protecting our bed & the towel on the floor? That was my attempt to catch some of the dirt tracked from the bare bathroom floor when they walked into our room w/ out getting it all over the carpet. I really don't know why I bothered because there was dirt from one side of the house to the other.
They also put in some new electrical outlets for me. I had ONE for the whole room. They gave me a couple more above the vanity, one in the nook w/ the toilet (because I want a night light there) & one beside the shower.
Next the drywall went up & got mudded.
NOW - let me paint this picture for you: They had to cut the shower walls down a bit. - it's a Monday night - around 10:30pm. I had worked all day, B-rad had went to work 1/2 a day & then came home to help Stanley who had been at our house all day working. I hear them cutting & my mother in law said 'Oh Jaime - they're cutting it on your bed!'
HUH?
Yep I walked in to see B-rad cutting the wall using our BED as his table. You would not believe the mess in there when this was all done. But at 10:30 at night, I really didn't care HOW it got done as long as it did...
I can't remember what all I've told you, but we had this octagon shaped window in the bathroom. I was indifferent on keeping it - if we could fine, if we couldn't fine. But my B-rad found these shower walls rather than using a pre-formed shower so that we could keep the window.... only trouble was figuring out how to cut the walls to fit the window. The walls were NOT cheap so they didn't want to mess it up.
They sprayed black spray paint around the outside of the window (that would be covered up w/ the shower walls don't forget.)...
They put the wall of the shower in position & pressed it towards the wall so the black paint would transfer onto the shower wall. B-rad held up the frame of the window as a reference point to draw around it so he knew where to cut.
Then it was basically follow the line to cut out the hole. Easy breezy, huh?
They put the shower walls up that night as well. (YES we had a late night that night!)
Don't mind the triangle thingie in the window - that's a shelf that will go inside the shower--it was just stuck there at some point & when I took the pic I was too lazy to move it.
They also got the floor put down because B-rad was going to need Stanley's help carrying the vanity in & there was no reason to put the vanity in, then move it to put down the floor.
Yes, we've done things a bit backwards & out of order. Hey-we gotta do what we gotta do.
It's a laminate floor that's 100% waterproof.
The vanity is in & as of this picture it wasn't hooked up. We have a faucet now & are able to wash our hands.
One of my favorite new things is the new track light in the bathroom. We had a light here before but we updated it to this LED light. I like it because it's cool & different because of the circular shape, but it also has adjustable lights. The one on the right points to the toilet & the other two are pointing to each side of the shower. I like having the smaller light because I don't have to run the 400 watts of lights in the vanity light if I just need to use the bathroom or take a shower.
So what's next? We have sanded the drywall & then re-mud'ded' some spots. (OH MY GOD that's the biggest mess I've ever seen in my LIFE.) I have paint picked out & once we are done w/ the sanding I'll paint. B-rad has to put up the vanity mirror, vanity lights & shower glass & we'll be able to use it to its full capabilities! Later he'll have to do the door trim, but at the rate we're going it may be next winter before that gets done.
I have pics of the horrible sanding mess & the paint samples but you'll have to wait for another post for those. HEY-if the actual remodel is being drawn out & taking forever I will squeeze every ounce of blog posts out of this too!
