My new best friend

Ya'll know how I love like my sleep.  And ya'll also may have heard that I get a teeny weeny bit cranky when I don't get to sleep enough.  B-rad snores which causes me not to sleep well... which in turn makes me  more cranky...

I've tried beating him in his sleep ear plugs - but that still doesn't block it out.  When he snores, it's like his whole body would struggle...like his chest & back would move like he wasn't getting enough air.  I was also certain he wasn't getting 'good' rest.  He talked to his regular doctor about it & he suggested doing a sleep study.

A few weeks ago he had an appointment to do the study.  He had to be there at 8pm.  They have what look like hotel rooms in the doctors office & that's where you sleep.  They hook you up to all kinds of machines to monitor everything & some chick watches you & gets your results.

B-rad sent me this pic of him with the title, "I'm a cyborg".  Funny stuff.
They determined that his oxygen levels were dropping below 80% & that he needed a C pap machine thingie.  Basically he has to wear a mask that just goes over his nose.  It's hooked to a small machine that holds either distilled or bottled water.  He had to go back & do another sleep study with the machine on him to determine what settings it needed to be on.  I'm not really sure how it all works...I don't really care...because B-rad doesn't snore anymore!  Oh, happy day.

He's only had the machine for about a week so he's still getting used to it.  Sometimes in the middle of the night he takes the mask off.  I always know when he does...because he starts snoring.  At first I wasn't sure why he was doing it - like I didn't know if it bothered him in the night or what.  After talking to him - he's doing it sub-consciously.  So now when I hear him snore, I not so gently nudge him & say, "PUT YOUR MASK BACK ON!"

The machine is so quiet I can't hear it.  A lot of people said they were loud, etc., this one is not.  Once he gets more used to it I think he will not keep taking the mask off at night (Robin - got any insight into this?!)  He doesn't think so - but I think he's sleeping much better at night.  He doesn't freaking move.  And since he's not moving...I'm not moving... which means I'm getting better sleep too!  That makes this machine my new bff.    It even comes with a little carrying case for when we travel.

He bought a little pole for the hose to help it not get all wrapped up around him.  When he wakes up, he hangs the mask on the post of the bed.  It doesn't look the greatest in the world  & the little pole makes it more difficult to make the bed...but again... I don't care.  I he sleeps SO much better now...

That sleep apnea is serious business! And YES that would suck to sleep with someone who snores that loudly. This is a win-win for you both!

BOth of my husbands had the machines. The older ones are a lot louder than the new ones. If he continues to keep pulling it off as time goes on, he may need to go back and get the pressures or the mask adjusted.

My mom sleeps with one too, although hers is loud I think. Back when I lived at home, there were times I could hear her snoring through two closed doors.
