I have a funny story (or sad, depending on your outlook of my life...) about Valentine's Day.
On Facebook last Friday night (before V day) I saw Rhonda (Butterflies girlfriend) post a pic of this:
Please notice the following: #1. Rhonda's name is spelled correctly. #2. This is to her....from MY dad.
(That's where the 'from Alvin' part comes in.)
This really didn't bother me. I don't really care if dad gets Rhonda chocolates. (Lets be honest, she could handle putting a little meat on her bones. Geesh.) Anyway, I am used to dad doing nice things for people who aren't directly related to him. It's just what he does.
I got to their house Monday for lunch & there was a box of chocolates on the table...for me...from dad. "Hi Honey", he says, "I got you some candy." Of course I was polite & said, "Ok, thanks!"
After we ate mom said to me, "There's a reason it's not wrapped." I said, "Oh, I hadn't even noticed." She said, "He wrote your name on it.... & he spelled it wrong. I told him you weren't going to be very happy about that! He was going to mark it out & fix it but that would've looked awful so I just took the plastic off." (God Bless my mother for trying to keep me from getting pissed off. Does she know me or what?!)
And she's exactly right. I wouldn't have been happy about that. But that's what I've come to expect from my dad. I tried to make her feel better for me by saying, "Well, I would've totally taken a pic & posted it to make fun of myself." And I totally would've...
Then I thought for a moment & said, "Who doesn't know how to spell their own DAUGHTERS name? Really?" Sigh...
Funny or sad. You decide...

I'm pretty sure my dad has spelled my name wrong a time or two.
I being the softy that I am, will er on the side of sad. But I think it's sweet he thought of you and bought you something.
Ugh, I say sad, too. But, at least he knows your name! Sometimes, my dad calls me Tricia. And doesn't correct himself... ;)
Ah, I knew the softies would be sad. (& of course Ginmommy says, "It was sweet he thought of you".) I love you softies for that!
Tracey-Calls you Tricia? That is pretty funny... & almost as bad! I bet she's his favorite...
JLL-I think we have more in common than we could ever know!
why didn't i comment on this? anywho, i think it's sweet that he thought of you!
My dad's name is Ed . . . E-D. If there were any more letters than that, he'd misspell his own name. Wanna know how I found out there was no Santa? When I was in the 2nd grade, Mom was handing out gifts from under the Xmas tree. There was a gift from Santa Claus to one of us kids. As Mom read who the gift was to, she yells, "ED!!! Santa Claus doesn't end with an E!!!" To which he sheepishly replied, "Oh." It didn't take a lot of thinking for me to figure out why Dad was signing Santa's name on the gift tags. Haha!
Like Alicia said, it was nice that he thought to get you something for Valentine's Day.
