If any of you read my post on Friday - you would've been riveted by the story about how I was supposed to go see a movie Friday night & then plans got changed. (Humph...) Well, plans got changed back at the last minute & I did go see 'The Vow' Friday night with Shauna.
We had had a whole evening of excellent adventures, but the last adventure was by far the most fun! We went to the 9:30 movie on Charlestown Road. We were on our way home & the clock said 11:45. I said, "Oh, the bridge is opening in 15 minutes!" Shauna said, "Wanna drive down there to see?" And before I had a chance to say, "UH YEA!" she exclaimed, "We're going down there to see it!"
And out of two girls who were in the right place at the right time was born a blog post...
We drove to the New Albany exit. The barrels were still up so we pulled over & talked to the news crews & workers. Yea-we're crazy like that! They were really nice & said, "no" when Shauna asked if we could be the first ones to drive over it.
We got off at the New Albany exit & wound our way back through town to get back on the interstate to make another attempt. We are not quitters. We saw a ton of cars waiting in line to go across the bridge. It was hilarious!
As we came back down the interstate, we could see all the cars going across from the New Albany exit. And we drove suuuuper slow & got up to the barrels just as they were moving them outta the way & off we went. We were screaming & laughing! (And no...we weren't drinking...)
We had our fun & conquered our Everest, so we did what any normal Hoosier would do & took the first exit to get back outta Kentucky. (Sorry, Gretchen...)
Uhm....apparently we weren't the only ones doing that either. This was the line in front of us...
This was the line on the ramp behind us.
So we sat & talked & laughed some more & wondered out loud if the less than quarter tank of gas Shauna had in her car was going to last? What we didn't realize was that while they had opened the bridge from Indiana to Kentucky - they had NOT opened from Kentucky to Indiana. FAIL!!! While we sat we saw several trucks coming up our ramp to move barrels. I bet those guys didn't think it was as funny as we did...
If you look directly in the middle of the picture, that area that looks like lights on a pole is someone letting off fireworks. We thought that was funny too!
They finally opened up the Kentucky side & we were off! Shauna yelled at channel 41 as we blew by them! Then she honked her horn all.the.way.across.the.bridge. Yea-it was annoying.
I tell you it was one of the most fun things I've ever done. (Yes, I've lived a sheltered life...) We just so happened to be there at the right time & it sounded like something fun to do! Good clean fun ya know? Some of my friends on facebook were complaining about it but I say BLAH to them! It was freaking midnight on a Friday night. We weren't hurting anyone & we weren't causing any trouble. It was an exciting thing to happen around here in boring ole' Indiana! Calm down!

I LOVE IT and I AM SUPER JEALOUS!! I totally would have been down there yelling, screaming, and honking away! What is wrong with having a little fun with something like that!!!! LOVE the pics!! and I love you for taking them!!!!
Love it! I think this is just one of the great things about being a female. We can have fun at almost anything, and scream and giggle and just have a blast! I totally would have joined in the fun if I could. Oh, and no worries about the KY comment, remember I am still a Hoosier through and through. :)
I have to admit when I first heard of this I thought people were being silly. Then I realized if I still worked downtown I would have done the same thing. Why not make something fun out of it.
Hilarious! What a fun way to spend a little time on a Friday night! Like you said . . . why not?!?!
