Saturday was THE day for Erin's wedding. And I knew that I was going to be on tap to help keep an 'eye' on the girls when they got to Kye's to take pictures. What I didn't realize was that they wouldn't have to be there until about 4 pm. So when I got an invitation to Jake's birthday party from 10am-1pm, I knew it would work out perfect that I could go to the party, hang out with Daniel & Alicia afterwards (& perhaps squeeze in a nap) & then head to Kye's.
Then Alicia said something that made me go, "Whachu talkin' 'bout, Willis?!" She knew I was going to be the girl watcher & she said, "You can bring the girls with you!" Whaaaaa? Uhm, I'm not really conditioned for that kind of thing - that takes training, studying...stamina!!!!
So I got to thinking about it. And I decided to ask Erin if she'd like for me to/let me watch the girls for her Saturday morning so her & Lora could get their hair & makeup done with no tiny human interruptions. I am a brave little soldier...
Erin & I discussed it (at great length, I might add.) The girls are very attached to Erin. Duh, she's their momma, but she spends all day, every day with them. And I didn't want them to all of a sudden realize their momma wasn't there & freak the heck out!
I explained to Erin about the birthday party & how there would be a TON of professional moms there to bail me out if I ran into trouble. She said it would be ok for me to take them. Then she proceeded to tell me a looooong list of rules & regulations for each little lady. (Sheesh, who knew a 2 year old & 10 month old had so many demands?! Oh, uhm-everyone knew but me? Oh, ok...) When my eyes had glazed over from taking in so much information, she said to me, "You're not going to kill them. Just bring them back alive." Uhm-no pressure... She also told me that Payton will bump & bang her head a lot & not to worry about it. So I said, "Ok-as long as they're breathing when I return them we're good?!" She answered, "Yes!"
Saturday morning I went over & picked them up & we headed to the par-tay. Madelyn was super skiddish & wouldn't even walk into Alicia's house! I had to go in & coax her in. We stayed downstairs for a bit, then we went outside with all the other kiddos. One of Madelyn's demands was that she would not go into the bouncy house. Check! - no bouncy house!
But they do have swings outside. So I asked her if she wanted to swing & she nodded her head yes. (In the spirit of full disclosure - I had also asked her a few nights before if she would like to go to a birthday party with me & she nodded her head yes. Then I asked her if she would also like to self implode & she nodded her head yes. Geez!)
I started pushing her & she LOVED it! She laughed & giggled! Thanks to my loyal stalker, Denise, for taking our picture!
Payton also got a turn on the swing. (Dear Erin-she was in one of those basket swing thingies & Daniel had her all strapped in & everything!) I think her face says it all!
Still smiling!
B-rad's cousin, Andrea, made me swing too & took our pic. It was funny because after Payton got out of the swing, she was on the patio with Alicia's in-laws & her mom. Alicia announced that it was time to eat so while I was getting Madelyn down, Marcia yelled to me, "Jaime-we've got Payton!" Ahhhh, it takes a village...
Insert much food chaos here. I didn't quite think about how I was going to make Madelyn & Payton & most importantly ME a plate while leaving them both un-attended.... Uhm, how does that work?! So, thankfully, my loyal stalker, Robin, just snatched Madelyn up & off they went to make her a plate of food! I sat Payton in her car seat & went & made our plates.
They had soft serve ice cream for all the kiddos & Kaitlyn took Madelyn to sit & wait for her ice cream!
It was a nasty disgusting mess! I don't know if she's never eaten out of a cone before, but she was 'drinking' it. So it was running down her chin onto her chest! Kaitlyn was right there helping me clean her up!
Now, are you wondering 'uhm, where is Payton while you're watching Madelyn drink her ice cream?!' Uh-yea- again-it takes a village people!!!! Leslie held her for a minute! (This pic is TOO cute!)
And there was Robin to save the day again!!!! She had gotten ice cream & cake & was holding Payton & feeding her! (Dear Erin - they drank NO juice & NO soda - but you didn't say they couldn't have cake or ice cream.)
Next it was time for Jake to open his presents. I was really proud of Madelyn. She didn't really try to go up & open his gifts for him, but she did want to play with the presents he'd already opened.
An Elmo themed party is not complete without an Elmo hat, right?!
While I was keeping Madelyn at bay from playing with the gifts, what was Payton doing? Well, Robin had her fast asleep on the couch. Awesome!
After most of the kids had left, Kaitlyn took Madelyn out to see if she would go in the bouncy house. She did go in, but she only wanted to go down the slide. No bouncing for this chick!
The moral of the story is that I survived. Er, I mean - the girls survived. They are very good little girls - they're just on the move all the time! Again, a big thanks to Robin & Kaitlyn for helping me with them AND to Daniel & Alicia for allowing me to stay all afternoon & let the girls get good naps! (Payton slept for 2 1/2 hours & Madelyn slept 1 1/2 hours...and I had even had to rock Madelyn to sleep. Yup, I'm a rock star! And nope, sadly I did not get a nap.... but that's what being a responsible adult is all about. Crap...) I am totally giving myself an A++ for the day. I mean, their mommy told me to bring them back breathing - I brought them back breathing AND all in once piece! Pssssshh!
Robin & her daughter, Kaitlyn, sat down with Madelyn at a table & helped with her lunch! I must say a huge THANK YOU to both those ladies! I swear to all that is good & holy, I would NOT have gotten through it without them! I was just glad Madelyn warmed up to them!!!
Next up was singing happy birthday to Jake! Madelyn plopped herself right down at the table beside him! Right before I took this pic, she had her fingers headed towards the icing!

You do deserve a pat on the back for that one. Before I kids there was no way I could have done it. Heck, I'm lucky to survive a day now.
i would totally give you an A ++ too! You rocked that, girl!!! I didn't know Erin said they couldn't have juice or soda or I would have totally hooked them up! (sorry Erin but that's what parties are for! :)) thanks for coming! :)
Thanks for everything!! It looks like they had a good time!! I told you they would do fine after being away from me for 5 mins!! Alicia- they cant have juice because it causes really bad diaper rash from the acid. It will cause their bottoms to bleed!! So we stay away from it. Milk and water are all they get!!! Thank you for letting them come to the party!!!
Aww, love all the pics! Especially the girls swinging...and the one of me & Payton! :) Those girls are so sweet!
