These are the clematis I had growing on my trellis. I was a bad yard-keeper this season & didn't cut them back like I was supposed to. So they were very thick. Very, very thick. 
And this trellis has been through a lot. It has fallen over numerous times. I even made B-rad put it back together a couple of years ago because it fell over so much that it fell apart.

Now, I'm not saying it has anything to do with the fact that it's not technically anchored into the ground. I mean, these bricks do a wonderful job of holding it down.
Well the other night that big storm came through. And the wind blew. And my very, very thick clematis served as a make shift 'sail' for the wind. When I pulled in the driveway, my trellis was face down in the dirt.
And I just let out a sigh. And I think I've decided I'm fighting a losing battle. I fought the trellis & the trellis won. There's just nothing on our 112 acres that will stop the wind from coming to sweep 'cross the plains. 
If anyone has any clematis transplanting tips - I'd love to hear them.
