You can call me crazy

I had heard rumors around town about how the corn crop this year looked.  BAD was the word... I hadn't been out to our field to take a look at ours until last night.  Now - I'm not one to 'worry' about things.  Especially if I can't do anything about it.  Sure, I get upset by things or things bother me - but to say I 'worry' about them is an overstatement.

As I pulled ears off our corn stalks last night, I got a bit sicker to my stomach each time.  Granted, I've only been married to a farmer for 13 years, but I've never, ever seen anything this bad.  Some of the ears I found were only about 2" long so I didn't even bother with them.  These 3 lovely samples are what we have at our house:  INSERT SHOCK & AWE HERE....
I've seen years where the ears were small.  I've seen years where the kernels were small.  I've never seen a year of NO FREAKING KERNELS.  The money is in the kernels, people.  That's what B-rad combines & we sell.  THE KERNELS.  What are we gonna sell if we have no kernels you might ask?

Yea, uhm - nothing.

So again, this sucks OUT LOUD & I have NO idea what we're going to do - but I'm not worrying about it. I can't go out & talk to the ears & make the kernels grow.  This is over...OVER.  We had NO rain & to add insult to injury we had scorching temperatures during the MUCHO IMPORTANTO pollunation stage.  (That's where the top of the corn stalk drops it's little pieces of pollen onto the ears & voila - a kernel is formed.  The super hot temps caused the little pieces of pollen to BURN UP before they could do their job.  Curses....)

I told you a good farm year to me is when I don't have to pony up any of my hard earned savings to pay farm bills?  Well - that's gonna be a real possibility this year so I've decided to start spending like mad.

Remember when we went to Vegas last summer JUST to see a certain singer?
And how excited I was & how much money it cost me?  Well, I've decided to out-do myself...
So, I love Faith Hill.  Like I love her more than I love Celine Dion.  I've seen Faith Hill in concert like 6 times in 3 states.  I follow her on Twitter & last week she kept teasing about a special announcement on Tuesday.  Being the super fan that I am - I watched the live press conference...
Low & behold, my Faith is going to Vegas.  WITH her hottie hubby, Tim.  Oh, I.am.there.  Notice at the bottom how it says, "like you have never seen them before"?  Well sure I've seen her like 6 times but this will be like NONE OTHER.  I can't miss it....  They are there for 10 weekends between December & April.  Something about 'working around their kids' schedules' blah, blah, blah...

Of course, I immediately told B-rad, "WE'RE GOING BACK TO VEGAS!"  And I was partly serious.  Vegas is an expensive place.  It's expensive to get there, stay there, do stuff there & eat there.  And I'm cheap, ya'll.  This is a little painful for me...  B-rad is SUPER laid back about stuff like this.  He's like, "Tell me when to pack." I'm the nut job.  I have to have a 'plan'...it sucks.

By the end of Tuesday (which was the exact same day they announced it, if you're keeping track) I had decided on dates, flights, etc.  Done.  (Tickets for the concert didn't go on sale until Aug 13th... I hadn't actually BOOKED anything...just had my dates allll lined out.)
When I got home B-rad said, "Now - tell me about this trip you have planned."  So I was all excited asking him if we could stay at ______ (more on that in a sec), of course he said yes & asked him if I could get the most expensive Faith Hill tickets known to man (he said yes again) & then I told him dates.  And I saw his face make a funny look - like he was actually thinking about what I had just said.  Uh oh.  NO thinking, B-rad - just packing.  He repeated the dates to me.  "UHM that's the farm show", he says.  "SOOO?", I reply.  "You know I love the farm show."  "SOOOO?", again from me... "And I'd miss the tractor pull."
DAMMIT.

I commence to doing the flight of the bumblebee with flights & hotel dates.  I had it narrowed down to 2 different dates.  I liked the flight home more on one than the other & that's how I decided.
Highly technical process....

I waited patiently until today at 10 am for the tickets to go on sale before I got flights or rooms.  I was all ready to go & noticed it said '10am PDT'.  UGH that's 3 hours behind us.  So I waited another 3 hours to get on-line & hopefully get the tickets for the date I wanted.   Lucky for me, I had no problem!  When you order tickets online did you know you can pick your exact seat now?  I was able to click on available seats & see the prices & everything.  It was awesome.
And by the way, I got 2 seats...on the 3rd row.  I am giddy....

Last year when we went it was our second visit & we did things a bit different & better than the first time we went.  And in keeping with that tradition - we're going a bit bigger this time too...  Do you remember my obsession admiration of these fountains at the Bellagio?  I love them.  I could watch them all.day.long...
And since we're staying at the Bellagio....with a lakeview room - I CAN!
AND there's another thing.  The first year we went we saw a Cirque du Soleil show.  It was awesome & even B-rad enjoyed it.    I really, really, really wanted to see 'O' last year when we were there but I had dropped so much cash on seeing Celine that I didn't want to pay for that too..

However, in an attempt to spend my entire lifes savings - we're going to see 'O' too.  I am jazzed....too bad I have a few months before the trip!
And in the spirit of full disclosure - if you would like to know how truly CRAZY I am & how much all this stuff costs, just ask.  I have no problem telling you.  I just didn't want anyone to think I was bragging.  This is reason #42 I don't have kids. THIS is what I save money for - to be able to do FUN stuff like this with just a teeny bit of no guilt.

I saw that corn on Facebook and I was like "OH MY!" That's bad! Honestly, it kind of looks fake. YEAH for a super fun trip though!! How much are those tickets?

Alicia - The tickets for the concert ranged from $110-$310 A PIECE. GULP. Ya'll are smart enough to figure out which ones I got....
(Celine tickets ranged from $75-$250. Like I said - VEGAS IS EXPENSIVE! Daniel would DIE!)

Hi Amanda! Hope you enjoyed the farming post!!! I enjoyed writing it!
The lakeview room at the Bellagio averages out to $269/night. We are going Tues-Sat & they charge more on weekends, less during the week so it averages to $269. That's pretty reasonable bc the Bellagio is kinda right dab in the middle of the strip. Location, location, location! :)

I'm sorry about the corn. Knowing and becoming friends with you has mad me more aware of our local crops during drought seasons.

I say go for it on the trip. You only live once and you will never regret doing it, but may regret not doing it.
