How does the girl with ice in her veins have a soft spot for animals?

One of the faithful & loyal steeds, Sparky, had to have emergency surgery on Tuesday.  He came home Wednesday & I had intended to do a lovely puff piece about his recovery....  Then tragedy struck....

Our beagle, Lilly, was hit by a car yesterday morning.  I immediately went home & took her to the vet.  They were VERY good with her (& me...) but the accident had fractured her spine.  I had to make the difficult choice to put her to sleep.  I stayed with her the whole time & she was SUCH a brave girl.  She never growled at anyone.  She never tried to bite anyone.  I petted her head the whole time & told her what a good girl she was.  I stayed with her while the doctor gave her the medicine to make her sleep...

My heart is broken today.  I have sadness words cannot explain.  You may recall I didn't wanna 'name the puppy' so I didn't get attached.  Uhm, yea...that plan worked beautifully... just look at that face!

I know in time I will feel better.  I know in time I won't miss her sitting on the front porch.  I know in time I won't miss her going bonkers when I said, 'Lilly!  You wanna pupperoni?!'  I know in time I won't expect her to run to the car when I get the mail.  But for today....I am sad.  I am heart broken.  I cry a lot...

I will update you about Sparky when I feel better.  He's going to be ok (I think) but he had a very serious injury.
I tease a lot about having no heart...or having ice in my veins as the title says...
I posed that question to my neighbor yesterday...& she said to me, "Jaime-you prove everyday that you do not have ice in your veins."  Sigh...maybe she's right?  I'm just a softy.  I talk a big game...but I have a tender heart.

Don't tell anyone I said that, mmmmm kay?!

I have news for you. You in no way, have ice in your veins. You might be a tough cookie, but you still are tender hearted. My heart hurts for you that you had to put down sweet Lilly. If I could I would hug you.

I know you have a soft side. You just try to act all tough. We are all on to you!! You were so brave to stay the whole time though. I don't think I could have done that. Sorry to hear about it!

I'm sorry you had to put Lily down. I cried for days after Matt had to take Theo to the vet. It does get better but it still hurts.

I forgot the most important thing about Lilly! She would ALWAYS bark at my brother in law....how can you NOT love that?! Good dog...

you do not have ice in your veins. How can someone not love a face like that. That is a terribly sad story, you did what any good mother would do staying by her side.

So sorry! :( I have always said that when our dog passes, it will be the girls first real heart break! Hope Sparky does good and heals quickly!
